The joining of grade 3 under the direction of Laura Scampoli and her daughter, Kyra, and grade 2 under the direction of Linda McMahon and her adult daughter, Jessica, provided an opportunity for the 3rd grade class to remember their first reception of Holy Communion and to connect it with the upcoming celebration of Holy Thursday. The 2nd graders are anticipating their first reception of Jesus in Holy Communion and this celebration of the Last Supper gives them an opportunity to understand the night that Jesus first gave us the gift of Himself in the form of bread and wine. The children are beginning to reflect on the love that makes Jesus actually come to us during the consecration of the bread and wine when the priest repeats the words of Jesus so that the elements are changed into Jesus Himself. This is how Jesus comes to live inside of us each time we receive Him worthily at Mass.
Also in the picture you will notice Dennis McCormack, one of the men from our parish who is studying to be a deacon. Very soon he will be leading similar learning experiences for our students at St. Columba.
