SCHEDULES FOR RETREATS AND CONFIRMATION CELEBRATIONS
Like Jesus, receive and give the gift of love! Help others do the same. CONFIRMATION INSTRUCTIONS
REHEARSAL – (see schedule for Group A, B or C above) REPORT TO THE CHURCH FOR REHEARSAL WITH SPONSOR OR PARENT SUBSTITUTE.
Find candidate’s name on the list. Note the letter and number next to the name.
Use the Church Seating Chart to find your seat location in the church.
Candidates sit on the number space. If seated on the RIGHT side of the church (J - Sacred Heart side), sponsor sits to the right of the candidate. If seated on the LEFT side of the church (M -Blessed Mother side), sponsor sits to the left of the candidate.
The Confirmation Booklet is provided for your use during the rehearsal. Keep this booklet in good condition (No folding, curling, etc.). RETURN BOOKLET TO THE END OF THE PEW (Far Right for those seated on the Right Side of the Church; far Left for those seated on the Left side of the Church).
BEFORE leaving the church AFTER rehearsal, you will pick up your confirmation robe in the VESTIBULE. If your robe is not in the back, come to see me.
CONFIRMATION DAY Candidates
Robed CANDIDATES and SPONSORS must report to the GYM at the designated time (see Group A, B, or C above) for a personal meeting with the Bishop
Proper “best dress” attire should be worn under the robes: Dresses/skirts for the ladies and shirts and ties for the gentlemen. No casual clothing such as sneakers or jeans is permitted. This is a sacred and “once in a lifetime” moment.
AFTER LEAVING THE CHURCH
Bishop Dominick Lagonegro will be available for a picture with each candidate in the cafeteria of the school. If you wish such a picture(s) GO IMMEDIATELY to the school. If the family is not interested in additional pictures with the bishop, you are free to leave directly from the Church to join family and friends. FAMILIES WILL KEEP THE CONFIRMATION ROBE. THE CONFIRMATION CERTIFICATE WILL HAVE BE GIVEN TO THE STUDENT AS HE/SHE LEAVES THE ALTAR AFTER BEING ANOINTED. THIS CERTIFICATE MUST BE KEPT AT HOME WITH IMPORTANT FAMILY DOCUMENTS. The seal makes it an official document to be used to verify reception of the Sacrament of Confirmation at the time of marriage, ordination or religious consecration.
Sponsors
Report to the GYM AN HOUR BEFORE THE CONFIRMATION MASS for a personal meeting with the bishop. (see above)
Appropriate attire for sponsors: Men should wear jackets and ties. Women should wear dresses, suits or pant suits. As with the candidates themselves, there should be no causal clothing such as sneakers or jeans since this is a sacred and singular occasion.
Guests
Guests are requested to observe the “RESERVED” signs in the church and be seated BEHIND them.
Seating is on a “first come, first served” basis.
Please do not save seats. If a body is not in the seat it is available for anyone.
Remain in your places throughout the Mass. It is not permitted to position yourself elsewhere for viewing or picture taking.
The parish has hired a professional photographer who will be positioned near the altar. Any other pictures taken must be taken from your seat. No flash is permitted during the Mass or during the time of anointing by the Bishop. This detracts from the sacred rite and is also a difficulty for the Bishop. If you desire, the bishop will pose with each candidate after the Confirmation Mass so that you can take your own picture. This will take place in the school. Your respect in regard to picture taking in the church is appreciated.
