A regular timeline for Catholic children is to receive Baptism as an infant, First Reconciliation (Confession) and First Holy Communion (Eucharist) in Grade 2,
and Confirmation in Grade 8. At St. Columba, we recognize that not every child follows this path. Sometimes, children begin Religious Education classes or Catholic school when they are past Grade 2. These children may or may not have been baptized, or may have missed instruction for the Sacraments of Reconciliation, Eucharist, or Confirmation.
Through our Religious Education program, we offer special classes for teens and children who are in need of any combination of the Sacraments of Baptism, First Reconciliation, First Communion, and Confirmation.
Our Children’s Special Sacraments class is for children in Grades 3 through 7 who desire to be baptized, or who are baptized but have not yet received First Reconciliation and First Holy Communion. This weekly class will prepare students in these grades to receive all three of these Sacraments, and also give them a preliminary grounding in their Catholic Faith so that they may then join their peers at their correct grade level the following year in Religious Education classes.
Students enrolled in St. Denis-St. Columba School may also attend the Children’s RCIA classes, if they are in Grades 3-7, and have not received Baptism or First Communion.
Our Teen Special Sacraments class is for students in Grades 8 through 12 who are missing any combination of the Sacraments of Baptism, Reconciliation, Eucharist, or Confirmation. In this weekly class, students will be prepared for these Sacraments and receive a thorough grounding in their Catholic Faith. Grade 8 Students enrolled in St. Denis-St. Columba School may also attend the Teen RCIA classes, if they have not been baptized or received First Communion.
Both of these classes are held on Wednesday evenings from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in SDSC School. Please call Sr. Ann Elizabeth, CR, at 845-221-4900 for more information.
